Scrappers winexhibition
NILES -- Four pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers defeated the Allegheny Athletics 8-0 in an exhibition game at Eastwood Field Sunday.
The Scrappers scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the third, before putting the game away with a four-run rally in the sixth.
Fourth round pick Jordan Brown went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Scrappers, who open their regular season Tuesday night.
Jose Constanza also had two singles and scored two runs.
Shea Douglas made his first appearance on his rehab assignment. Douglas, who spent time with Kinston, Akron and Buffalo last season, tossed three innings allowing no hits while striking out two. Justin Pekarek, Josh Kite and Dustin Roddy finished on the mound.
Wildcats lose
DAYTON -- Dubrey Black scored 25 points, which included a 7-of-10 effort from 3-point ragne at the Dayton Jets clipped the Mahoning Valley Wildcats 135-124 at Colonel White High gymnasium Saturday.
The Wildcats (10-7) were led by Rick McFadden and TeJay Anderson with 21 points apiece. Anderson also had 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
Kevin Netter added 18 points and Lawrence Culver finished 17 points and tied his own team-mark with 20 rebounds.
Friday the Wildcats dropped a 124-106 decision to the Jets (13-1).
Carl Edwards paced Dayton 23 points and 13 rebounds.
McFadden took scoring honors with 27 points and he grabbed nine rebounds and he had three assists.
Anderson added 20 points and had four assists. Chad Allen finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds and A.C. Crockett had 10 assists.

*KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Australia's Kim Felton won his first Nationwide Tour title, holing a 10-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a one-stroke victory over two-time PGA Tour winner David Peoples in the Knoxville Open.
The 30-year-old Felton, a three-time winner last year on the Von Nida Tour in Australia, closed with a 3-under 69 to finish at 11-under 277 on the Fox Den course.
Felton earned $85,500 to jump from 74th to 12th on the money list with $108,021. The top 20 at the end of the season will receive 2006 PGA Tour cards.
The 45-year-old Peoples also closed with a 69.
*JOHNSTON, Iowa -- San Diego teaching professional Kitty Robyn won the Hy-Vee Classic, closing with an even-par 72 for a one-stroke victory over Cindy Miller and Laura Shanahan Rowe in the Women's Senior Golf Tour event.
Robyn finished with a 4-under 140 total on the Hyperion Field Club course, and earned $75,000. Rowe shot a 66, and Miller had a 70. Dawn Coe-Jones (73), Alicia Dibos (73) and Barb Moxness (70) followed at 2 under.
*SAINT-OMER, France -- Sweden's Joakim Backstrom parred the first hole of a playoff with England's Paul Dwyer to win the Aa Saint-Omer Open.
Backstrom, who earned a PGA European Tour exemption through next season, closed with a 1-under 70 to match Dwyer (68) at 4-under 280. England's James Heath (72) and Swedes Steven Jeppesen (68) and Michael Jonzon (68) tied for third at 3 under.

*NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Chicago Cubs right-hander Kerry Wood allowed two earned runs and four hits in four innings while striking out six in his second rehabilitation start for Triple-A Iowa on Sunday night against Nashville.
Wood, continuing to come back from a strained right shoulder that put him on the disabled list May 3, threw 43 of his 69 pitches for strikes, walked three and hit a batter.
His pitch count ran high in the second inning, when he threw 22 pitches. He walked two and struck out two in the inning.
Wood hit Trent Durrington in the first inning after Durrington squared to bunt.
In his first rehab start on June 13 in Des Moines, Wood threw 46 pitches before a rain delay. Wood, 1-1 with a 6.15 ERA for the Cubs, is expected to make at least one more rehab start before Chicago activates him.
*HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- New York Mets minor leaguer Gabriel Hernandez pitched a no-hitter for the South Atlantic League's Hagerstown Suns in a 1-0 victory over the West Virginia Power on Sunday.
