SOCIAL JUSTICE Seminar will explore the power of humility

Speakers and a forum will explore the virtue's impact on the world.
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- The Sisters of the Humility of Mary will hold a conference, "Revisioning Humility: Imagining a New Future for Women," on July 14-17.
It will focus on how the practice of humility influences the development of social justice and global peace initiatives as they affect women and children.
The conference will feature a forum by Angeles Arrien, an internationally known anthropologist, educator and award-winning author of "The Four-Fold Way: Walking the Paths of the Warrior, Teacher, Healer and Visionary." Her latest best seller, "The Second Half of Life: Opening the Eight Gates of Wisdom," will also be available at the conference.

Other keynote speakers will be Amy Serrano, filmmaker and poet; Dr. Raymond F. Reyes, associate vice president for diversity at Gonzaga University; and Barbara Ferris, founder and president of the International Women's Democracy Center.
Conference organizer Sister Susan Schorsten, HM, noted the forum will provide reflection on the topic of humility.
"Humility seems to have become synonymous with weakness," she said. "Quite the contrary, humility takes great strength. It is the very thing that allows compromises to be offered which then translate into peaceful agreements, personally and globally."
The deadline for reservations is June 30. Overnight accommodations and reservations are limited. The registration fee for the conference is $150 and $220 for room and board. There is also a $105 commuter fee for those not using Villa Maria housing facilities.
