Extra traffic law enforcement continues in residential areas

The traffic program runs through the summer.
BOARDMAN -- The township police department's Neighborhood Traffic Enforcement Program continues this week, focusing on Afton Avenue, Ewing Road; Huntingdon, Tanglewood, Tara and Wildwood drives; and West Midlothian and Southwoods boulevards.
NTEP was developed by Chief Jeffrey Patterson in response to traffic complaints the department receives from residents. The majority of the complaints involve speeding in residential neighborhoods.
The program's main objective is to conduct extra traffic enforcement in residential neighborhoods that receive the most complaints. The efforts will focus on speeding and safety belt/child restrain violations.
A secondary benefit of the program is increased police presence in residential neighborhoods. It gives officers an opportunity to be more visible, monitor neighborhood activity and help deter crime.
NTEP is a summer-long initiative that started earlier this month and will continue through Labor Day weekend. At least once per week, the department will evaluate and determine what locations need the most added attention.
