Juvenile receives jail time for felony

MERCER, Pa. -- An inmate in a juvenile detention center was given a prison term for trying to stab three staff members in November 2003.
Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Francis Fornelli sentenced Deron Odem, 18, to 111/2 to 23 months in jail followed by four years' probation for aggravated assault, a felony.
According to court documents, Odem, an inmate at the Keystone Shelter Care, 95 Race St., Greenville, hid a metal ink cartridge from a pen in his hand and began to stab at three staff members. He struck one with the metal point and punched another numerous times. When he was apprehended he also threatened the staff members.
In another case,, Brian Spohn, 23, of Stewart Avenue, Greenville, was sentenced to one week to one year and ordered to make restitution for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. He was given credit for seven days served and placed on conditional parole.
According to court documents, on Nov. 8, 2004, he struck a male juvenile in the face repeatedly. The victim suffered a concussion.
