New executive director hired

CORTLAND -- The Trumbull County Soil and Water Conservation District hired Mike Wilson, interim director, as the new executive director. Wilson was former executive director of the Home Builders Association.
The board voted to hire Wilson at its June 3 special meeting; he began work June 6.
The position was created by consolidating the administrator and administrative assistant positions because of budget cuts, Wilson said. David H. Brown, who served the district for 14 years, recently retired.
Wilson said he had worked with the soil and water conservation district when he was HBA executive director.
"Conserving soil and water is something very important to me," he said.
Wilson has experience as an executive in management, project development, media relations, government representation and economic development. He was the Executive Officer of the Year in 2000, an honor given annually by the National Association of Home Builders to recognize outstanding personal leadership.
The soil and water conservation district's mission is "to promote the enhancement and protection of the natural resources of Trumbull County," its Web site says. It is a state agency.
Wilson was a member of the board of supervisors for three years before becoming interim director. Five county residents are elected to serve in staggered three-year terms as volunteer supervisors, Wilson said.
