Senior citizens get food checks



MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc. and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Food Distribution are offering the Farmers Market Nutrition Program to senior citizens living in Mercer County this summer.
Part of the program is the distribution of Farmers Market Checks.
Seniors who are at least 60 years old, live in Mercer County and do not reside in personal care, assisted living or nursing homes are eligible for $20 worth of checks. Checks for $40 will be given to couples. Checks are used to purchase fruits and vegetables growable in Pennsylvania farmers markets that are registered with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
Checks and information are available at the following times and locations:
SHENANGO VALLEY
Shenango Valley Center for Aging and Geriatric Health, 220 N. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage, starting June 14 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 1 to 3 p.m.
GREENVILLE AREA
Greenville Area Senior Service Community Center, 339 E. Jamestown Road, June 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Fredonia United Presbyterian Church, 23 Water St., June 29, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Reynolds VFW, Engelwood Drive, July 8, 3 to 6 p.m.
GROVE CITY AREA
Grove City Senior Community Center, 301 S. Broad St., Tuesday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 9 to 11 a.m.
Pine Grove Community Center, North Street, July 13, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
MERCER AREA
