East Palestine wins nutrition award again

EAST PALESTINE -- For the third straight year, Chris Jarussi, food service director of East Palestine City Schools, and her staff have been awarded the Stellar Award for Best Nutrition Practices.
The 2005 award, presented by the Ohio Department of Education's Office for Safety, Health and Nutrition, was for nutrition practices at East Palestine Middle and Elementary schools. East Palestine High School received honorable mention.
More than 200 schools in Ohio applied for the award.
Schools were judged based on the type of meal service provided for students, the quality of meals served, the availability of healthy choices in a la carte and vending items, continuing education and training opportunities for food service staff, the implementation of nutrition education, marketing programs and activities that target students, staff, parents and the community.
Awards will be presented Friday at the Ohio School Food Service Association annual conference in Cleveland.
