CRIME 3 face charges tied to 2 killings

Officials allege one killing was over drugs, the other over a break-in.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Charges against three men solve one old and one recent homicide, a detective says.
A Mahoning County grand jury issued secret indictments that were made public Friday.
Timothy A. Overman, 21, of Poland is charged in the Jan. 20, 2004, murder of Jason W. Gasior Jr., 23, of Struthers. Gasior had been shot in the head and body in a bed at his South Side apartment.
Janero Mitchell, 19, and William A. Wiliams, 23, both of New York Avenue, are charged in the May 7 shooting death of Anthony McBride, 39. McBride, described as homeless, was found shot to death on the sidewalk between 810 and 840 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Detective Sgt. John Kelty was lead investigator on the McBride homicide and assisted Detective Sgt. Dave Lomax on the Gasior murder.

Kelty said Friday that he was very happy, after so many months, to see the Gasior case solved. He called the family with the news.
"They were very emotional on the phone," Kelty said.
The detective said Gasior's death was cracked by a conglomeration of things that pulled the evidence together. He said the motive was likely an argument over drugs or money.
Kelty said Overman has been housed at Community Corrections Association, a halfway facility on Market Street. Overman was at CCA on a weapons charge, Richard J. Billak, chief executive officer, said Friday.
Kelty said the motive in the McBride homicide was retaliation over a break-in at a Westlake Terrace apartment. He said forensic evidence -- firearm examination -- and witness statements led to the charges.
The detective declined to say which of the two men accused, Mitchell or Williams, pulled the trigger of the 9 mm handgun.
Mitchell was arrested at home by members of the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force and U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force, Kelty said.
He said Williams is in the Trumbull County Jail and would be served with the arrest warrant there.
