UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Katie Douglas scored 20 points and Margo Dydek added 14 rebounds and five blocks to lead Connecticut over Seattle. The rematch of last season's WNBA championship turned out to be a painful homecoming for Storm guard Sue Bird, the former UConn standout, who broke her nose with three minutes remaining. Teammate Lauren Jackson's elbow caught Bird as they scrambled for a rebound. Jackson finished with 20 points on 8-for-16 shooting for the Storm (4-2). Bird also broke her nose during the WNBA playoffs last year. Taj McWilliams-Franklin added 19 points for Connecticut (4-1) and Dydek finished with 11 for her first double-double with the Sun, which led 50-41 at halftime.
Silver Stars 71, Mystics 62
SAN ANTONIO -- LaToya Thomas scored 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting, and San Antonio closed with a 10-0 run. Thomas, the first pick in the 2003 draft, made her first five shots and finished three points short of her career high. San Antonio (2-6) shot 50 percent overall. Alana Beard, who started 0-for-8 from the field, finished with 16 points for the Mystics (2-5). Chasity Melvin had 15 points, all in the first half.
Lynx 62, Comets 58
HOUSTON -- Katie Smith scored 21 points and Nicole Ohlde added 20 and a game-high 11 rebounds to lead Minnesota over Houston. After Michelle Snow gave Houston a 38-30 lead just 2:49 into the second half, the Lynx responded with an 11-0 run to take the lead for good at 41-38. Smith started the run with a long 3-pointer and Ohlde finished it with a layup with 12:31 remaining in the game. The Comets, held without a field goal for 8:44 in the middle of the second half, got within two when Snow converted a three-point play. But Minnesota (3-3) iced the game when Stacey Lovelace made a pair of free throws with less than five seconds to go. Snow scored 15 points to lead the Comets (4-2). Leading scorer Sheryl Swoopes, nursing a sore left ankle, was held to just eight points on 3-for-10 shooting. Ohlde shot 8-for-12 from the field, and Smith -- held to just nine points in the teams' previous meeting -- was 8-for-16. The rest of the Lynx combined to shoot 4-for-25.
