Summer promises to overflow with fun



There will be movies every Tuesday night.
McDONALD -- Woodland Park on Pennsylvania Avenue officially opens Monday for summer activities.
Numerous activities are planned this year including Tuesday Night Movies, which start at about 8:30 p.m.
Park Crafts will take place at 11 a.m. every Friday. Crafts include projects from picture frames to potted flowers. Crafts take place rain or shine.
Making a splash
The park pool will open, weather permitting, at 11:30 a.m. weekdays.
The Summer Swim Program will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at McDonald High School Pool. Lessons will start Tuesday and continue through Aug. 4. Lessons are free to youths in the McDonald school district. Participation is restricted to 3-year-olds through sixth-graders. Swim lessons will be based on a pool evaluation to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The Warm Water Pool Program will start Monday and run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. until Aug. 24. The program includes structured warm water activities for people with arthritis, muscle aches and anyone who wants low-impact exercise.
The program is for those 18 and over. The cost of the class is $3, and all waiver and registration forms must be returned to the municipal building before Monday.
The Tennis Clinic, for ages 6 through 18, started Saturday and will continue every Saturday until June 25.
Story Time Mondays will begin at 11 a.m. every Monday starting June 20 at the gazebo and continue through July 25.
Summer Adult Volleyball will start June 20 and run every Monday and Wednesday until Aug. 10. Registration was required by June 6.
The Dye Day will take place in the Woodland Park Pavilion on June 28. Bring anything you would like to tie-dye, including shirts, shorts, socks, etc.
The John Peter Checker Tournament will be on July 8. Sign up at the park before July 6.
Water Day in the park is scheduled for July 22 . (Rain date is July 29.) Water Day will include water balloon tosses, sprinklers, water gun fights, the park pool and games.
The Village Youth Triathlon is scheduled for Aug. 11. Registration forms can be picked up at the municipal building.
