Authorities apprehend fugitive hiding out at Pennsylvania hotel

OIL CITY, Pa. -- A Liberty man remains in the Venango County Jail, awaiting extradition to Mahoning County to face charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and endangering children.
Dean Michael of the U.S. Marshals Service and coordinator of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force said Johnny Mitchell, 34, of Green Acres Drive, was captured Tuesday afternoon.
Mitchell, who had been on electronic monitoring, skipped town after being indicted on the charges in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Agents tracked him to Knox, Pa., where Mitchell had been staying with his girlfriend. They learned that Mitchell was to stay in a hotel after he apparently learned that law enforcement was looking for him.
"Pennsylvania State Police scoured the hotels in the area" and found Mitchell at a Super 8 Motel in Reno, Pa., Michael said.
Besides state police and the marshal task force, Oil City and Knox police departments and the U.S. Marshal Greater Pittsburgh Fugitive Task Force participated in Mitchell's apprehension.
Mitchell was charged with being a fugitive from justice and housed in the Venango County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
He has an arrest record dating to 1989, which includes robbery, receiving stolen property, assault, drug trafficking and aggravated menacing charges, the task force coordinator said.
