NEOUCOM gets $830K from state

COLUMBUS -- The Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine's planned renovation to two major academic halls will get more than $830,000 in state assistance, the State Controlling Board decided Monday.
Without comment, the controlling board approved the release of $830,812 to the Portage County-based medical college for the renovations of Liebelt Hall and Olson Auditorium.
According to state records, the project will update two of the major teaching spaces at the institution.
Liebelt Hall is 1,688 square feet and was built in 1984. Olson Auditorium is 3,370 square feet and was built in 1976.
Both buildings will get architectural and aesthetic upgrades as well as acoustical, lighting, heating and cooling, and other improvements in the proposed renovations, state records show.
State officials say the improvements are necessary for the use of updated technology in teaching.
In other business, the controlling board OK'd:
UThe release of $216,870 for the Campus Network Expansion, telephone renovation and expansion at NEOUCOM.
UThe release of $3,153 for a roof renovation project at NEOUCOM.
Based in Rootstown, NEOUCOM has partnerships with the University of Akron, Kent State University and Youngstown State University, as well as 17 hospitals.
