Brother faces murder charge

LISBON -- The brother of 48-year-old Kathryn L. Anderson has been charged with shooting her to death, the sheriff said.
Columbiana County Sheriff Dave Smith said James Kovach Jr., 64, was charged with murder when taken into custody Sunday. Smith said Kovach and his sister lived with their mother at a house on Camp Boulevard, Guilford Lake.
The shooting took place at 12:45 a.m. Sunday at the home, Smith said. The sheriff offered no motive for the crime.
Kovach was video-arraigned Monday at Columbiana County Municipal Court, Southwest Division. Judge Mark Frost set bond at $1 million and a preliminary hearing for 10 a.m. Friday.
Smith said deputies, Prosecutor Robert L. Herron and agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation responded to the crime scene.
