GOLF OUTINGS
XThe second annual BPJWL Golf Outing to benefit the Daniel M. Flood Memorial Scholarship Fund will be held July 16 at Bedford Trails Golf Course. A shotgun start will be at 8 a.m. for the scramble tournament. The cost is $65 per player (four-person teams) and includes 18 holes and a cart, breakfast, lunch and buffet dinner. Prizes will include a chance to win a car, $5,000, an electronics package, golf clubs, and two round-trip airline tickets or a seven-day cruise. XFirst United Methodist Church, 237 W. Silver St., Sharon, Pa., will have a sidewalk sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. June 14 and 9 a.m. to noon June 15. Wednesday is $1 bag day. Lunch will be available to purchase. For additional information, call (724) 983-0200.
XFriends of the Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will hold its semiannual sale in the Friends Bookstore on the lower level of the Poland Branch Library. Beginning June 13, sale hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Fiction, nonfiction and children's books will be on sale at half of the already discounted price, and audio books and large-print books will also be available. The Friends Bookstore is operated on a nonprofit, all-volunteer basis by members of the Friends. Tax-deductible book donations are always accepted. XMahoning County Council for Retarded Citizens is holding its biennial giant garage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Leonard Kirtz School, 4791 Woodridge Drive, Austintown. Proceeds form the sale will help benefit mentally retarded and developmentally disabled children and adults of the Mahoning Valley. Donated items for the sale may be dropped off Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the school. No clothes, shoes or large appliances will be accepted. SHOWS
XWarren Rose Society will hold its 35th annual rose show from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 18 at the Eastwood Mall in Niles, in front of the J.C. Penney store. The public is invited to exhibit and visit this free event. Roses must be grown by the exhibitor. Entries need to be submitted before 10 a.m., and judging will begin at 11. The judges for this year's show will be Mary O'Tolle, Tim Yova and Richard Stromberg. Judging will be in accordance with the American Rose Society rules. Winning entries will be awarded ribbons and certificates.
SPECIAL EVENTS
XO-My-O Chapter of the American Business Women's Association is having a pajama party from 5 to 10 p.m. June 24 at Struthers United Methodist Church, 33 Sexton St. Massages, facials, manicures and hairstyling will be among the services provided by 15 vendors. Those attending are asked to wear their pajamas and slippers. The event is open to chapter members and the public.
WORKSHOPS
XQuilting Angels of Austintown will have a meeting from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Stacey Pavilion in Austintown Park, Kirk Road. Pat Knoegle of California will demonstrate egg money quilts, a 1930s vintage sampler and Irish Chain in a Day. There will be a $2 donation at the door.
