YOUNGSTOWN -- How hot was it in Youngstown on Sunday?
Not quite toasty enough to set a record, but close. Sunday's high temperature was 86 degrees, according to Weather Central, one degree short of the record high for June 5 of 87, set in 1958.
The average high temperature for June 5 in Youngstown is 75 degrees.
Ribbon-cutting event
YOUNGSTOWN -- A ribbon-cutting ceremony from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday will mark the opening of the office for The Ladders of Opportunity Inc., which provides services designed to increase school attendance and improve child-parent-teacher relationships for at-risk pupils.
Alicia Lawrence, Shawn Trowers and Tiffany Traylor started the intervention program last year to provide services to district pupils ages 10 to 18 who have faced suspension or expulsion.
The program also teaches self-sufficiency skills, peer relations, mentoring, anger management and drug/alcohol education and prevention.
The ribbon-cutting will be held on the first floor of Building A at Oak Hill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave.
Stolen vehicle watch
MARION TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- State police are looking for a forest-green 2003 Chevrolet Tracker stolen from the parking lot of a local business this past weekend.
A Beaver Falls woman reported the vehicle missing from the parking lot of the Veka Corp. on State Road 588. The SUV was stolen between 6:45 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the state police.
Anyone observing this vehicle, with Pennsylvania tag DZM-3286, is asked to call the Beaver station of the state police at (724) 773-7400.
Dad's day card-making
COLUMBIANA -- Children ages 5 to 11 are invited to bring mom to the Columbiana Public Library on Saturday and make a special Father's Day card.
Children should bring two to four photos of them and their fathers or their fathers alone. Scrapbook consultant Linda Herman will help the children put together their cards.
The event will last from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Victorian house tour
MERCER, Pa. -- A glimpse of the area's past will be on display next month when five historic houses are opened for the Mercer Victorian Weekend House Tour on July 17 from 1 to 5 p.m.
The houses, all built between 1850 and 1913, represent several different styles of architecture including Georgian Colonial, Italianate and Greek Revival, and include a completely restyled 1910 home.
Advance tickets for the events are $6 and are on sale now at the Chamber of Commerce office.
Call (724) 662-4185 to buy tickets. Tickets will also be on sale at the information booth on the courthouse lawn on July 16 and at Shannon's Kandy Kitchen at Erie and North streets on July 17. Price of the tickets on tour weekend is $7. Tickets will not be sold at the individual homes as in previous years, and children over 12 will need a ticket to attend.
