RETIREMENT
36-year military career
Lt. Col. Dennis L. Crago, son of Dr. and Mrs. W.H. Crago of Poland, retired from the Air Force on April 20. He was serving as the 445th Operations Group deputy commander at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. He is a 1965 graduate of Poland High School and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Ohio State University in 1969.
Crago was commissioned through the Air Force ROTC program in 1969 and entered pilot training at Laredo Air Force Base, Texas. He was assigned to Lockbourne, Ohio, as a KC-135 pilot in the Strategic Air Command upon graduation in 1970. During this assignment, he served around the world, including several tours in support of Southeast Asia.
He was released from active duty in 1974 and then joined the Air Force Reserve where he was assigned as a flight examiner, where he flew the C-123K Provider in 356th Tactical Airlift Squadron.
In 1979, he accepted an Air Reserve Technician assignment in the unit. In 1981, the 356th transitioned to the C-130A Hercules and upgraded to the C-130E model in 1988.
Crago was the 356th Operations Officer when the unit was activated for Operation Desert Storm in 1991. He was assigned as the deputy commander for operations in the 907th Airlift Group upon his return. In 1992, the unit transitioned to the C-141 B Starlifter and in 1993 moved to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Crago is married to the former Linda Howell. They have a daughter, Jennifer, and two sons, Tim and Kent. The couple lives in Springboro, Ohio.
DEPLOYED
Making a Malaysia stop
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jaclyn J. Bauman, daughter of Michael and Kathleen Bauman of Beloit, and her shipmates made a port visit to Port Kelang, Malaysia, during a scheduled deployment while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, homeported in San Diego.
During the visit, sailors from Bauman's unit went on tours, shopped and volunteered their time at a local orphanage, where they cleaned the grounds and spent time with the children.
USS Nimitz is the flagship for Commander, Carrier Strike Group 11, and is deployed in the Western Pacific in support of the global War on Terrorism.
Bauman is a 2002 graduate of West Branch High School and joined the Navy in January 2003.
COMMISSIONED
Graduate commissioned
Jason L. Holloway recently received his bachelor of science degree in economics and his commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy from the United States Naval Academy.
Holloway is the son of Jeffrey L. and Debra K. Holloway, of Keswick, Va. His father is a Warren native who grew up in Niles. Holloway is the grandson of Lois M. Preston and Angie Holloway, both of Warren.
While at Annapolis, Holloway rowed heavyweight crew his freshman year and was a two-year starter and letterman on the Naval Academy rugby team, which finished third in the nation in 2004. He also was a member of the Rock Climbing Club, Cannoneer Team, and made the Commandant's List his senior year. He is a 2000 graduate of Monticello High School in Charlottesville, Va. Holloway reported to his initial three-year assignment, the USS Cape St. George, a guided missile cruiser whose homeport is Norfolk, Va., on July 1.
