Vienna Baptist turns 40
VIENNA -- Vienna Baptist Church, 504 Youngstown Kingsville Road, will celebrate its 40th anniversary Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. with the church's first pastor, the Rev. Frank Odor, as the keynote speaker for service. Marge Odor will sing.

Shiloh Baptist turns 88
CAMPBELL -- The Shiloh Baptist Church, 238 Bright Ave., will observe its 88th anniversary at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 14. The Rev. Carothers Jenkins Jr. of Friendship Baptist will be the featured speaker. Mount Sinai turns 56
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 328 South Forest St., will celebrate its 56th anniversary over two consecutive Sundays. The first observance will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday featuring keynote speaker the Rev. N. DuBois, pastor of Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Youngstown. The Rev. Mary E. Austin, pastor of Greater Calvary Baptist of Youngstown, will preside over the second anniversary service on Aug. 7 also at 4 p.m. For more information, call (330) 743-6061.
World War II service
YOUNGSTOWN -- John Calvin-St. Paul United Church of Christ, 1951 Mathews Road, will honor veterans of World War II on Aug. 14, the 60th anniversary of the end of the war, with worship service at 10 a.m.
The service will include a re-enactment of a radio program that aired in 1945 and again in 1995 on the 50th anniversary of the end of the war. Norman Corwin originally wrote the script and revised it in 1995. Area residents Ken Brayer, Bill Dundee and Sandy Myers will re-create the later version.
All veterans of World War II and the Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf wars are invited to attend and will be seated in designated sections based on the war in which they served.
The Rev. William Myers, pastor emeritus and Korean War veteran, will lead the service.
Pastor to be installed
WARREN -- The Rev. Matthew M. Thomas will be installed as the pastor of First Baptist Church of Warren at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The Rev. Mr. Thomas has been serving the church, at the corner of Eastland and Surrey Road Southeast, since April.
A reception will be in the fellowship hall after the service; area congregations and the general public are invited. Please R.S.V.P. to the church office at (330) 369-5432.
Former pastor to preach
WARREN -- Central Christian Church, 2051 E. Market St., will welcome its former pastor, the Rev. Thomas Jewell, to preach the sermon at the 9:30 a.m. worship Aug. 7.
The Rev. Mr. Jewell was the pastor from 1980 through 1993; he is the regional pastor of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oklahoma.
A fellowship time will be at 11 a.m. after the worship. Anyone interested is welcome to attend the worship and fellowship.
Central Christian Church is sponsoring an outdoor fall flea market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10. Cost is $10 for an 8-foot table with two chairs or two tables for $15. Crafters are welcome as well.

Parochial vicars assigned
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dominican priests, the Rev. Giles Dimock, O.P., and the Rev. Jordan Turano, O.P., have been assigned as parochial vicars at St. Dominic Church effective July 19.
After seminary studies at the Dominican House of Studies, the Rev. Mr. Dimock was ordained June 9, 1966. Previously, he served as a theology professor at Providence College, Providence, R.I.; Ohio Dominican College; the Josephinum in Columbus; and Francisican University of Steubenville, where he also taught ecclesiology. He was also a professor of sacraments and liturgy at the Dominican House of Studies.
The Rev. Mr. Turano was ordained May 21, 2004. He completed seminary studies at the Dominican House of Studies and the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.
Evangelism outdoors
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St., will continue its evangelism ministry outside worship services Aug. 5 and 12 at 5:30 p.m. The services will be held in the parking lot of the church.
The guest speaker for the Aug. 5 service will be the Rev. Ernest Ellis, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, Youngstown. The speaker for the Aug. 12 service will be announced later.

Diocese appointment
YOUNGSTOWN -- Msgr. Robert J. Siffrin, diocesan administrator, has announced the appointment of Daniel R. Thimons as associate director of the Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Ministry effective Aug. 15.
Thimons holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Franciscan University of Steubenville, and a masters in theological studies from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
The Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Ministry provides resources and support for natural family planning, marriage preparation, enrichment and education, separated and divorced ministry, and other topics related to the formation of Christian families.
