Looking for new business

The Western Reserve Transit Authority continues to be aggressive in its efforts to bring new business to the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
That is the only way to operate.
For obvious reasons, the highest profile business that can be attracted to the airport is a company offering commercial airline service. That's important, whether it be Pan Am, the most recent contender, or another carrier or combination of carriers.
But just as important is development of facilities in and around the airport.
The Port Authority is considering working with the Summit County Port Authority to offer potential developers access to low-interest, long-term financing.
Hangars on
One project that might take advantage of such financing would be construction of hangars at the airport to attract more private aircraft business. At present, only about one in eight private planes in Trumbull County is based at the regional airport.
The Summit County Port Authority has not confined itself to providing financing for airport projects, or for projects in Summit County. It is involved in tens of millions of dollars' worth of projects in Akron and Medina, Portage and Summit counties.
It is making impressive progress, and the Western Reserve Port Authority and the Regional Chamber are smart to be looking for ways to use Summit's expertise in financing project in the Mahoning Valley.
