WARREN -- A seminar on home schooling will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 in the Community Room of Panera Bread at 3641 Elm Road N.E.
This free, parent-oriented meeting is geared to answer questions about homeschooling in general and to aid parents in completing the paperwork necessary to begin home schooling in accordance with Ohio Law.

Early Entrance Test dateto be offered
VIENNA -- The first portion of the Early Entrance Test for children in the Mathews Local School District who will be 5 years old between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 will be given at 9 a.m. Aug. 12 at Currie Elementary School, 3306 Ridge Road, Cortland. Hermitage registration
HERMITAGE -- Parents/Guardians of new pupils (kindergarten through 12th grade) residing in the Hermitage School District may pick up new pupil registration packets and information regarding the registration process at the Artman Elementary School, 343 N. Hermitage Road.
During the rest of this summer, the registration office will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Approved final registration requires verification of residency, birth certificate, immunization records and previous year's report card (if available).

Parents are encouraged to notify their previous school office so transcripts of academic and health records may be prepared. Please register as soon as possible so class lists will be accurate in August 2005.
Classes begin Aug. 25 for the 2005-06 school year.
Career center book saleis scheduled
LORDSTOWN -- A book sale and open house will be held at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center Adult Training Center from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday.
Hundreds of new and used books will be sold, including novels and text books. Proceeds will be used to offset the cost of career training.
In addition, the open house will provide an opportunity for high school graduates to learn about the school's seven different career-training programs, all of which take less than a year to complete. Participants can tour the school, speak with staff and learn about financial aid.

Youth leadership
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Congressional Youth Leadership Council named Ursuline Academy student Adam Sepesy as one of only 400 participants in the 2005 National Young Leaders Conference, which began July 23 and goes through Tuesday in Washington, D.C.
Adam, who will begin his junior year this fall, received the invitation as a result of his scholastic merit and leadership.
He will participate in leadership activities such as role-playing the three branches of federal government and interact with Washington, D.C., media members.
Adam is the son of Edward and JoAnn Sepesy of Youngstown.
Math and reading classes
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield schools will hold classes from 9-11 a.m. weekdays during August to help pupils improve in math and reading.
Classes will be held at Seaborn Elementary School from Monday through Aug. 12 . The program is for first- and second- graders.
Mineral Ridge Middle School will hold reading and math classes for from Aug. 8-19for fifth- and sixth-grade pupils.
Parents, after talking to school officials, decided whether their children should attend the classes, school superintendent Michael Hanshaw said.
Hanoverton registration
HANOVERTON -- United Junior High and High School will be accepting new student registration Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please bring birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of residency (recent utility bill), shot records and any custody papers that may apply.
United Junior High will be having a seventh grade welcome orientation Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. At that time they will receive their schedules and can purchase school locks.
Howland preschool
HOWLAND -- Howland Community Church Cooperative Preschool, 198 Niles-Cortland Road S.E., is registering children for the 2005-06 school year.
Classes for 3- and 4-year-old children will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:15-11:30 a.m. or 12:45-3 p.m. To enroll, children must be at least 3 years old by Sept. 30 and potty trained.
A pre-kindergarten class is available for children who will be 5 years old and are not planning to enter kindergarten in September. This class will be Monday through Thursday from 12:45 to 3 p.m.
The preschool offers a curriculum stressing beginner reading and math skills and basic science concepts while building confidence and self-esteem. The program also includes classes in music, creative movement, library and educational field trips.

$10,000 grant awarded
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Raymond John Wean Foundation has awarded a Good Neighbor Grant of $10,000 to the Children's Museum of the Valley. The money will be used toward the development of a full-time educator's position and expansion of the museum's educational programs. The museum is a nonprofit educational center downtown.
