$20 farmers market checks for seniors



MERCER, Pa. -- Senior citizens in Mercer County can get $20 per person in farmers market checks to buy produce from local farmers markets.
The program, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc., offers the checks to senior citizens age 60 and older. To be eligible, seniors must not live in a care facility and must have an income less than $17,705 for one person or $23,736 for a couple. Proof of age and residency is required, but income is self-determined.
Checks can be picked up through Sept. 30 or until supplies last and must be used by Nov. 30.
Checks are available at the Shenango Valley Center for Aging and Geriatric Health on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m.; Greenville Area Senior Community Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays; Grove City Area Senior Community Center from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays; McQuiston Center by the Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and the administrative office of Mercer County Area Agency on Aging from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
