CRIME Domestic squabble ends in fatal shooting

Another man was shot in the abdomen in an unrelated shooting.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Donni L. Feagin has been charged with the fatal shooting of his stepfather at 262 Hilton Ave. on the South Side, police said.
John T. Bowers, 49, was shot in the abdomen around 12:15 a.m. Thursday. He died in surgery at 4:04 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Health Center, said Rick Jamrozik, a Mahoning County coroner's investigator.
Reports show Bowers had been living in Liberty.
A murder warrant for Feagin, 21, of 262 Hilton Ave., was issued Thursday afternoon, said Lt. Robin Lees. If arrested overnight, Feagin would be arraigned today in municipal court.
Lees said the motive appears to be a domestic quarrel over furniture between Bowers and his estranged wife, Maria. Feagin, her son, is accused of intervening and shooting his stepfather.
Murder case
The case is assigned to Detective Sgt. Ron Rodway, who signed the warrant.
The first officers on the scene found Bowers in a corner of the dining room lying on his back and being attended by a neighbor who is a nurse. The victim, whose breathing was labored, wasn't able to tell police what happened.
Police said 46-year-old Maria Bowers, the victim's estranged wife, looked down at the victim and said: "You tell them how you just beat the s--- out of me." She told police that a lot of people were in her house during the beating and someone fired a shot.
As Maria Bowers was being placed in a cruiser about 10 people approached in an effort to free her, reports show.
Additional officers were called to the scene to restore order and Maria Bowers and two of her sons were taken downtown to be questioned by detectives. They were later returned home.
Police who searched the house said they found a box of .380-caliber ammunition in a small unlocked safe on the top shelf of a living room closet near the front door. No gun was found.
Bowers is the city's 18th homicide victim this year. At this time last year, the city had recorded 13 homicides.
Separate shooting
In an unrelated shooting late Wednesday night, 20-year-old Elijah J. Jackson of Magnolia Avenue was shot in the abdomen on the South Side. Jackson told police that he and a friend were sitting on steps at Market Street and Judson Avenue when three men pulled up in an older model Pontiac.
Jackson said he was robbed at gunpoint of $20 by one of the men and then shot in the abdomen after being told to run down Market Street. He identified the suspect for police, saying they've clashed over a woman and it's an ongoing problem.
Reports show Jackson was in serious condition Wednesday night at St. Elizabeth Health Center. The hospital had no record of him Thursday afternoon.
