What: CITGO Bassmaster ClassicHistory: The CITGO Bassmaster Classic is the world championship of bass fishing and the premiere title in the sport. The Classic began in 1971 as Bobby Murray won the $10,000 top prize in the winner-take-all event on Nevada's Lake Mead.Dates: Friday through SundayWeigh-ins: 4 p.m. daily at Mellon ArenaQualifying: There will be 47 anglers competing at the Classic. The field will consist of the 2004 Classic Champ, the Top Five Federation Championship qualifiers, the Top Five Open championship qualifiers, the Top 11 anglers from the 2005 Elite-50 points and the Top 25 anglers from the 2005 Angler of the Year standings.Fishery: The Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers.Launch: Point State ParkOutdoors Expo: The Classic ESPN Outdoors Show, a giant product and activities festival that attracted more than 42,000 visitors in 2004, will take place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.Youth programs: The world's top young anglers (ages 11 to 14 and 15 to 18) will compete in the Junior Bassmaster World Championship July 24 (practice) and 25 (competition) at the City of Kittanning's 3-year-old, $4.5 million park, about a 50-minute drive from Mellon Arena. The Bassmaster CastingKids Championship presented by CITGO will be Saturday during the pre-weigh-in show at the Mellon Arena. The Bassmaster Family Fun Fest (formerly Kids Classic) is today at Point State Park.
