GM's Midgley transfers to Michigan tech center

The new plant manager has previous experience at Lordstown.
LORDSTOWN -- General Motors Lordstown plant manager Maureen Midgley is leaving that position to take a management position at the GM Technical Center in Warren, Mich.
Midgley, plant manager at the Lordstown Assembly since 2001, will become executive director of GM's Manufacturing Engineering Paint Center, according to a GM news release.
She will be replaced by John Donahoe, currently the plant manager at the GM stamping facility in Mansfield. Donahoe, who previously was an assistant plant manager at Lordstown, will officially become plant manager Monday.
Spokesman Tom Mock said he would not arrive in Lordstown until next Wednesday.
Midgley came to Lordstown as assistant plant manager in 1999 with a background in paint production and engineering.
She began her GM career in 1983 as a manufacturing engineer and floor supervisor at the company's Wentzville, Mo., facility. She has held a variety of positions related to the production and engineering of paint, polymers and stamping.
Midgley was appointed plant manager of electric vehicles at the Lansing Craft Centre in 1994 and became the director of passenger car paint engineering with the former Vehicle Development and Technology Group in 1997.
She will begin her new duties in Michigan on Monday.
Donahoe has previous experience in Lordstown in a 28-year career with GM. He was named director of manufacturing engineering at Lordstown Fabricating in 1991 and was promoted to assistant plant manager in 1994, holding that position for about four years.
He was appointed program manager of cars at GM's Metal Fabricating Division in May 1998 and was named plant manager of the GM Lansing Metal Center in 2000.
Donahoe has been in his current position in Mansfield since 2002.
He attended the executive development program at Harvard University and holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
