Boys soccer teams to be part of tournament

STRUTHERS -- Twenty-four high school boys soccer teams will take part in the second James J. Simon, Sr. Memorial Tournament Saturday and Sunday at Valley Sports.
"We have a great field with some real good soccer teams playing in the tournament this weekend," tournament founder Alex Simon said.
"Toledo St. Francis DeSales and Richfield Revere could easily reach the state finals this year. Poland will be real strong again and Chagrin Falls is always tough."
Another strong entry is Champion, which has been in the last two Div. III regional tournaments.
One game sends Poland against Mooney on Saturday at 8 p.m. Last year Mooney beat Poland 2-0 in the district tournament -- the Bulldogs' only loss -- and the Cardinals went on to the Division II state championship game.
Other local teams in the tournament are Canfield, Howland, Lakeview, Mathews, Salem, Warren JFK and West Branch. Each team will play four games.
Proceeds will benefit the Mahoning Valley chapter of the Shriners for Crippled Children organization.
No admission will be charged, but a donation will be accepted at the gate. For details, call tournament director Joe DeMay at (330) 519-9918.
