Groundbreaking set for nursing care facility

NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Austin Woods will have a groundbreaking for its new $7.5 million Hampton Woods nursing care facility at noon Tuesday at 1485 E. Western Reserve Road.
The facility, which will create 120 new jobs, was designed using the clustered cottage concept, consisting of four individual neighborhoods of resident rooms. Each neighborhood will have private and semi-private bedrooms grouped around a staff area and living room with a fireplace, kitchen and porch.
Residents will stay in either private rooms or semi-private rooms where they will be separated by a dividing wall. All resident rooms will have private bathrooms and most will include showers. Residents with similar needs will be placed in the same neighborhood and dine together in family-style settings.
The concept provides elements of senior living and caters to an independent lifestyle while allowing staff to provide more individualized care.
The facility, which will be owned and operated by Dr. K.R. and Kathy Prasad of Canfield, was designed by JMM Architects Inc. of Columbus, and will be built by Angelilli Builders of New Springfield. An assisted living facility will be added after the completion of Hampton Woods.
The Prasads are building the new facility to expand the quality services provided at Austin Woods Health Care Center in Austintown. That facility houses 160 residents in long-term care and the rehabilitation unit.
