SOUTH SIDE Police rescue woman who was abducted

A municipal judge set bond at $350,000.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 28-year-old South Side woman was abducted, beaten and had a gun placed in her mouth by a man she no longer wanted to date, police said.
Robert A. Hornbuckle, 43, of East Ravenwood Avenue, was arrested at his home Sunday evening after police forced their way past him to rescue the victim, reports show. Officers said the bruised woman was frightened and hysterical and kept yelling "help me!" from inside the house.
Hornbuckle was arraigned Monday in municipal court on charges of felonious assault, abduction, illegal possession of a weapon based on a prior conviction, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly set bond at $310,000 and a preliminary hearing for Aug. 2. If Hornbuckle makes bond, he must be placed on electronically monitored house arrest. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Officers said they were able to piece together what happened when they interviewed the woman at St. Elizabeth Health Center. She had been too hysterical at the scene, saying only that Hornbuckle hurt her, put a gun in her mouth and intended to kill her.
Allegations
At the hospital, the woman told police that she had dated Hornbuckle for two months but recently decided to break it off, saying he wanted a sexual relationship and she didn't. She said he grabbed her from the porch of a friend's house on Cameron Avenue and took her to his residence Sunday, saying "the only way you're going to leave me is in a body bag."
She was able to call 911 when someone came to the front door.
When Hornbuckle returned from the door, he ordered her upstairs and, when she refused, threw her to the floor and kicked and punched her, police said. She said he pulled a gun from his waistband and put it in her mouth. She watched the hammer go back and click when he pulled the trigger, reports show.
By then, police were knocking at the door. Hornbuckle told the officers he didn't call them and tried to shut the door.
The officers said they used pepper spray on Hornbuckle because he resisted arrest. They seized a loaded gun from his pants pocket and another loaded gun and ammunition from a bedroom, reports show.
Police said the woman's injuries included a black left eye and chin and bruises all over her body.
