POLICE Man arrested was wanted in homicide
The 23-year-old from New York also had a parole violation on his record.
BOARDMAN -- Police arrested a man wanted in New York City on a warrant for homicide.
On Friday evening, a police officer on patrol saw a car turn into the parking lot of a McClurg Road business. A man emerged and walked across the street. Both businesses were closed, and the officer approached the man to investigate because of the recent burglaries and car break-ins, according to reports.
The man, later identified as Steven Campbell, 23, whose address is the TallyHo Motel in Liberty, told the officer he got lost on his way to pick up his girlfriend from work.
Police findings
The man also provided a false name and birth date and was acting nervous as police were talking to him.
While patting him down and looking for weapons, police found $862 in cash and five small bags of suspected marijuana, and arrested Campbell, according to reports. They also said they found a loaded semi-automatic pistol under the seat of the car he was driving.
When police ran the false name and birth date through the law enforcement data system, nothing was found.
Campbell's girlfriend then called his cell phone and a police officer answered. When asked to verify her boyfriend's identity, she provided a different name.
While being booked, Campbell provided his actual identity, and police discovered warrants out of New York for homicide and a parole violation.
He also was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, drug trafficking and illegal weapons possession, all felonies, and a misdemeanor count of obstructing official business.
