YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley has attracted the production of another feature film, "Horrors of War," which will film throughout the area this week.
"Horrors of War" was written by Peter John Ross and Phillip R. Garrett. Ross said in a recent statement that the film is primarily action with a science fiction twist.
Sean Reid and Garrett will serve as the film's producers. Peter John Ross and John Whitney will co-direct.
Garrett's film credits include "Shrek," its sequel "Shrek 2" and "Madagascar." Garrett also has worked on "AI" ("Artificial Intelligence") and "Minority Report," directed by Steven Spielberg.
The majority of the crew involved with "Horrors of War" are Ohio natives who have established careers in Hollywood.
Filming at various locations throughout the Mahoning Valley is scheduled to begin today and continue through Friday. Locations have not yet been announced to the media or public.
A press conference will be held later in the week to announce filming locations and additional information to the public.
Ohio acclaim
"The Horrors of War" is part of a larger attempt by the Western Reserve Film Commission to bring more productions of film, television and commercials to Ohio. The commission hopes to attract and accommodate many more productions to Ohio.
The Western Reserve Film Commission serves filmmakers by acquiring permits, communicating with police and fire departments regarding safety issues for the production company and public, gaining access to government properties and assisting with networking with local businesses.
Three other producers currently working with the commission are considering shooting their films in Ohio within the next year.
More information on the commission is available at www.filminohio.com.
Local actors and screenwriters should contact the Better Business Bureau for talent agents in the Mahoning Valley. The commission is not currently accepting head shots or scripts.
