SANDLOT BASEBALL Astro beaten in NABF Junior finale
STRUTHERS -- Ian Humphrey scattered seven hits to lead the Huntington Hounds to a 1-0 victory over the Astro Falcons in the NABF Junior Tournament championship game Sunday at Cene Park.
Thor Meeks had two hits for the Hounds while Eric Schuller scored the only run. Pat Arnold doubled him home in the fifth inning.
Kolten Hoffman had two hits for the Falcons.
Senior tournament
In the senior tournament, Ontario Astros and Ohio Yankees split a weekend doubleheader.
Saturday, Ontario defeated Yankees 7-5 as Conrad Bach and Danny Markovic each had two hits including doubles. Justin Gianfresco had two RBIs.
For Ohio, Jeff Willis doubled and had two RBIs.
Sunday, Ryan France, Bret Klafczynski, Nick Haught and Ryan Bartolon each had two hits in the Yankees' 10-4 victory. Klafczynski drove in three runs.
Markovic and Corey Berneski each had two hits for Ontario.
Class AA
Lone Wolf defeated Penn-Ohio 5-4 in 11 innings to tie their best-of-three series at 1-1.
Scott Brewster scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Bruce Brewster. Chris Palm pitched 11 innings to record the victory and his two hits included a double.
Shaun Freer had three hits while Brian Smith hit his second homer of the series.
Sean Lucas led Penn-Ohio with two hits.
In the other playoff series, Champion Molded Plastics tied its series with MTC Knights with a 3-1 victory. Winning pitcher Mike Price struck out eight batters.
Tyson Rowland and Cedric Haynes each had two hits.
MTC's Torrie Frangiamore and Vasili Pahoulis had two hits.
In the Youngstown first-round playoffs, Youngstown Metros swept its best-of-three series with Bud's/Dicioccio with a 6-0 victory.
Brett Pitzulo had two hits for Metros.
For Bud's, Dean Palombaro had two hits.
In Metros' 5-4 win, Pat Oman led the offense with two hits.
Frank Santore and Mark Nightingale had two hits each for Bud's.
