MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township will sponsor an old tire pickup for residents Aug.1-5 and Aug. 8-12.
Township residents are permitted to place no more than four tires per household at the curb for pickup. Administrator David Pugh added that there should be no rims on the tires.
Library to sell books
WARREN -- Changes in hours at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W., go hand-in-hand with the annual Friends of the Warren Library book sale.
The library will be closing one hour early, at 5 p.m. Aug. 5, to allow for book sale setup. The library will be closed for regular business Aug. 6 to accommodate the annual FOWL book sale during the weekend. The sale will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6 and from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 7. The public is invited to browse and buy.

Fund-raiser block party
AUSTINTOWN -- The Friends for Wedgewood Park Inc. will host a kickoff fund-raiser block party from 10 a.m. until dusk Aug. 13 at the park. The block party will include a basket raffle, 50/50 raffle, rummage sale and music by Shooting Star Entertainment. There will be games and face painting for children. There will also be a dunk tank featuring Austintown officials. All proceeds will be used for cleaning and restoration of Wedgewood Park.
Bicycle safety and raffle
NILES -- Home Town Buffet, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, will host a bicycle safety night 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 11.
A representative of the Niles Fire Department will talk about the importance of wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle.

Civil War re-enactment
CANFIELD -- Argus Masonic Lodge, 5050 Shields Road, will host the third annual Civil War re-enactment at Argus Park starting at 9 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. Battles will start at 2 p.m. both days.
More than 200 infantry soldiers will perform battle scenes, along with four full-size cannons featured in the movie "Gettysburg."
The re-enactment also will feature a dress parade, sword presentation and cannon-ball shoot-out. Visitors can see four different war camps, shopkeepers displaying their trades and chat with Gens. Grant and Lee.
Admission is free for children under age 10 and $5 for adults.

Center orientation
YOUNGSTOWN -- Reservations are being taken for a Grant Center orientation program scheduled for the Main Library Meeting Room, 305 Wick Ave., at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4.
This program is intended for representatives of nonprofit organizations new to the process and who want to know more about the Library's resources or for previous participants who would like a refresher.
The program is free. Grant information applies to nonprofit organizations only; no information is available for individuals seeking funds.
