Man charged in '04 case near Cincinnati

SPRINGDALE, Ohio (AP) -- A man arrested in Michigan has been charged with killing a man last year in this Cincinnati suburb, police said.
Angel Batista was charged Friday in Hamilton County with one count of murder in the May 2004 death of Rodolfo Garcia Samano and one count of promoting prostitution, said Springdale police Detective Joe Warren. Batista's age and address weren't immediately available. Police say he also goes by several aliases.
Batista was a passenger in a car that was stopped by Wayne County Airport police near Detroit on Wednesday. He was turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol out of Trenton, Mich., when he gave false information during the traffic stop, Warren said.
"When his fingerprints were checked with the FBI, he was identified as the man we were looking for," Warren said.
A federal warrant had been issued for Batista because of his extensive travel across the United States and his status as an illegal immigrant, Warren said.
Springdale investigators traveled to Michigan to interview Batista, Warren said. Police say Batista was operating a three-state prostitution ring through Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana at the time of the fatal shooting.
Warren said he could not provide additional information about Samano, his slaying or the suspected motive.
An extradition hearing for Batista is scheduled Monday.
