DOCTORS
Four receive doctoratesof osteopathic medicine
Four Mahoning Valley people have received their doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens.
They are Nichole Giannios of Boardman, Matthew Hammar of Canfield, Stephanie Kopey of Austintown and Matthew Kunar of Salem.
Dr. Giannios, a daughter of Gus Giannios of Poland, received a bachelor's degree from John Carroll University in 2001. She is doing an internship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Dr. Hammar, a son of Ernest and Sally Hammar of Canfield, received a bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in 1997 and a master's degree from BGSU in 2000. He is doing an internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Dr. Kopey, a daughter of Robert Kopey of Austintown and Debra Phillipson of Canfield, received a bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University in 1999. She is doing her internship at St. Joseph Health Center, Warren.
Dr. Kunar, a son of Fred and Edna Kunar of Salem, received his bachelor's degree from Bucknell University in 1999. He is doing his internship at Dewitt Army Hospital in Fort Belvoir, Va.
Struthers valedictoriangets optometry degrees
Michael J. Dobos Jr., Struthers High School valedictorian in 1997, has completed his master of science in vision sciences degree and his doctor of optometry degree from Ohio State University.
He was one of only three people that earned both degrees and also received the school of optometry's award for exceptional achievement in the field of vision science.
He received his bachelor's degree from Marietta College.
Dr. Dobos will begin his optometry residency at Wylie Outpatient Clinic at the Columbus Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Chillicothe VA Medical Center.
