District judge convicted

An accident while merging on Interstate 95 led to two injuries and one fatality.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania district judge was convicted of misdemeanor reckless driving in Virginia for a crash that killed his friend and injured another passenger.
Richland Township District Judge Max Pavlovich, 62, was convicted Thursday following a 15-minute trial before a district judge in Hanover County, Va.
Pavlovich, a former high school driver education teacher, was ordered to pay a $500 fine. He could have been sentenced to a maximum of one year in jail and up to a $2,500 fine.
Before he was convicted, Pavlovich's attorney, Ted Bruns, argued that, if anything, Pavlovich was guilty of a lesser charge of improper driving, which carries a lighter maximum sentence.
Police said Pavlovich, who's been a district judge for nearly 20 years, lost control of his sport utility vehicle on Interstate 95 when he failed to properly merge at a point where four lanes become three.
William R. Clark, 58, of Richland Township, died at the scene. Another passenger, Andrew Hancharick, of Johnstown, and Pavlovich were injured.
The men were returning from a trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to prepare Pavlovich's condominium for the summer. It's possible that the state Judicial Conduct Board will investigate Pavlovich's case, said Cambria County court administrator Don Scotilla.
