LAWRENCE COUNTY Commissioners to repair, reopen Nashua Bridge

A hearing will take place in August on changes in subdivision rules.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County commissioners expect that Nashua Bridge in Pulaski Township may reopened within the next few weeks.
Commissioners, at their weekly public meeting Tuesday, agreed to pay Shingledecker Welding of Oil City, Pa., $12,325 to complete bridge deck repairs.
Shingledecker was the lowest price of three companies submitting estimates for the work, commissioners said.
County officials closed the bridge last Thursday after the county engineer inspected it and recommended that it be closed because of deteriorating conditions and to declare the situation an emergency so the work could begin as soon as possible.
Public hearing
In other news, commissioners scheduled a hearing for 9:30 a.m. Aug. 2 to receive public comment on a revised version of the county's subdivision and land development ordinance.
The hearing will be in the commissioners' meeting room at the Lawrence County Government Center.
The county planning commission recommended the county's adoption of the proposed measure, which was drafted to bring the county into compliance with the state Municipalities Planning Code known as Act 247.
James Gagliano, county planning director, said the proposed changes clarify elements of the ordinance and to make it more user-friendly.
Many of the proposed changes focus on the land development and subdivision application review process, he noted. Commissioners must conduct public hearings before they can vote on whether to enact it.
Commissioners also announced that their next weekly public meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilmington Township Municipal Building.
There will be no morning meeting that day.
