CONNIE MACK BASEBALL Rondinelli loses to Ohio Thunder in title game, 8-4



Rondinelli and Astro Falcons still advance to the regional tournament.
STRUTHERS -- Every member of the Ohio Blue Thunder had at least one hit as they defeated Rondinelli Tuxedo 8-4 in the championship game of the Connie Mack state tournament at Cene Park on Wednesday.
After Rondinelli rallied for a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth, the Thunder scored twice in the top of the fifth to retake the lead. Jordan Petraitis drove in the first run with a triple, one of his three hits in the contest. He came home on a single off the bat of Chris Gacom. Petraitis' third hit of the game, a single, scored Brad Competty in the sixth to make the score 5-3.
Garrett Frye, Competty and Carlo Testa added run-scoring singles in the seventh to put the game away. Competty went the first 42/3 innings for the win, with Gacom tossing 11/3 innings of one-hit scoreless relief for the save. Fyre, Competty and Conor Egan had two hits each for the Thunder.
For Rondinelli Matt Katich and Frank Rosile had two hits each, both with a double. Rondinelli scored the three runs in the fourth with two out. After Hayden Johnston singled and Dan Babyak walked, Katich drove home both with his double down the left field line and Rosile followed with a double just inside the bag at third.
Rondinelli wasted a scoring opportunity in the third inning. Katich led off with a infield single and Rosile reached on a error. A wild pitch put runners on second and third with no one out, but Competty struck out Jesse Moses looking and got Chuck Olesky to pop out and Matt Dado to fly out to stop the threat.
Corey Nesbitt went the first 61/3 innings on the mound for Rondinelli. He allowed all eight runs, but had five strikeouts and got out of jams all day long. The Thunder left 11 men on base in the game. Rondinelli stranded nine.
The Thunder eliminated the Ohio Warhawks 1-0 in an earlier game Wednesday. Carlo Testa allowed just five hits and had 10 strikeouts while Egan had two hits and drove in the game's only run. J.B. Shuck got the loss, giving up an unearned run on four hits with seven strikeouts.

The JL Clevelanders scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Koch and claim the final regional qualifying spot.
Justin Walters hit a two-run triple for the first two runs in the game-winning rally. He scored the third run on a single by Dave Foos and the final two runs scored on a single by Ben Jurevicius. Tony Mazza got the win in relief with Brian Tallerico going the last two innings for the save. Anthony Porter and Tom Enyerat had two singles for KLD, which took a 4-2 lead by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth. Two of the runs scored on a passed ball and a wild pitch. The third came on a double by Grant Sevek. John Izzo suffered the loss, going the first 41/3 innings while allowing five runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
Ohio Blue Thunder, Rondinelli Tuxedo and Astro Falcons advance to regional play in Battle Creek, Mich. Ohio Warhawks, Ohio Eagles, Andy's 9ers, Team Ohio and JL Clevelanders advance to regional play in Oxford, Ohio.
