Big inning, more winning: Scrappers triumph in 10th



Mahoning Valley moved back over the .500 mark.
FISHKILL, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers rallied for six runs in the 10th inning and pulled out a 10-4 victory over the Hudson Valley Renegades Wednesday night.
Evandy DeLeon came up with the big hit in the 10th, a two run double, while Jose Chavez also had an RBI single. The Scrappers got another run on a Hudson Valley error and then two more on wild pitches from Renegades relief pitcher William Evers.
Dustin Roddy picked up the victory in relief, coming in with one out in the eighth inning and runners on first and second. He got a double play ball to get out of the jam.
He then struck out the side in the ninth and retired the Renegades in order in the 10th.
With the victory, the Scrappers move back over .500 at 15-14 in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League.
The Scrappers finished with 10 hits, four of them in the 10th inning. Jose Constanza and Trevor Mortensen each had two hits for the winners.
Justin Lewis started for the Scrappers and pitched four shutout innings before allowing the Renegades to tie the contest in the fifth.
Hudson Valley starting pitcher Wade Davis threw the first six innings and struck out 11 batters.
Early lead
The Scrappers took a 2-0 lead in the fourth with the help of a Hudson Valley error and a sacrifice squeeze bunt by DeLeon.
The Renegades tied it in the fifth and then took a 4-2 lead in the sixth.
Mahoning Valley came back to tie the game in the eighth on a two-run single by Mortensen.
The Scrappers started their 10th inning rally with one out on back-to-back singles by Derrick Peterson and Mortensen. After Casillas struck out, DeLeon ripped his two-run double. Boodle Clark then got aboard on an error with another run scoring and Chavez followed with an RBI single.
Jose Constanza then doubled, putting runners on second and third, but Evers unleashed two wild pitches, allowing both runners to score.
The teams conclude their three-game series tonight at 7:11 p.m.
