3-year-old girl hitby car at party dies
WARREN -- A 3-year-old girl who was hit by a car July 13 died Tuesday. Marco Q. Dukes of Ogden Avenue Northwest was run over by a car at 796 Hoyt during her birthday celebration. Warren police traffic investigators said the case is an accident and the driver, a family friend, has not been charged. Police said the driver couldn't see the child because she was so short, and that she didn't hear the vehicle because she was deaf.
Suspects to go to courton robbery warrants
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two men arrested on robbery warrants Wednesday by members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force are due in municipal court today for arraignment. Brett Wilson, 25, was arrested at his Tyrell Street home. He is charged with complicity to aggravated robbery, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Dean Michael. Wilson's alleged accomplice, Michael Maynard, 24, of North Osborn Avenue, was arrested at his aunt's house on Imperial Street, the deputy said.
Telephone threat
STRUTHERS -- A counselor for a local crisis center reported a telephone threat to a staff member early Wednesday on the center's help hot line. According to police reports, a suicidal woman called the Turning Point Help Line at about 2 a.m. A male talking in the background, who was believed to be the woman's husband, became upset at the conversation and asked to speak to a member of the professional staff at the center. When he was told he couldn't, he threatened to come to the center with a shotgun, according to the report.
Hubbard woman winsin lottery game
YOUNGSTOWN -- Laverne G. DeVassic of Hubbard won $110,000 for matching five numbers in a July 7 Rolling Cash 5 game. DeVassic filed the claim in the Youngstown regional office Monday. After federal and state taxes totaling 28.5 percent, she will receive a check for $78,650. DeVassic picked her own numbers, 1-4-9-18-36, and purchased the winning ticket from One Stop Superette, 2590 N. Main St., Hubbard. The store will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Time is changedfor recycling collection
COLUMBIANA -- The next paper and aluminum recycling collection at Crestview High School will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28. This is a change in time for this collection. Students will be available to help unload cars and trucks. Paper items collected include newspapers, magazines, catalogs, phone books, junk mail, office and school paper, hardcover books, paperback books and cardboard of all kinds. Paper items should be separated by type, if possible. Paper products can be brought in brown paper bags, smaller plastic bags, or smaller cardboard boxes. Clean aluminum cans can be brought in larger plastic bags. The next collection will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 29. Dog bites under review
WARREN -- The dog warden is investigating two unrelated dog bites. A 3-year-old girl who lives on Peace Northwest underwent plastic surgery in Akron after a dog bit her in the face around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. A 6-year-old Northwest Boulevard boy was bitten around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday by a stray dog his family had adopted. He didn't have serious injuries and medical treatment was advised, police officials said. The names of the children were not disclosed by authorities.
Windows broken
WARREN -- Warren Steel Specialties, 1309 Niles Road S.E., reported someone had broken several windows of the business by throwing rocks. The damage occurred between 4:30 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Conservancy meeting
TRANSFER, Pa. -- The Shenango Conservancy will hold the Second Annual Kidds Mill Bridge Celebration at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kidds Mill Bridge, south of Greenville. The conservancy will also hold its annual membership meeting and election at 12:30 p.m. The bridge covers the Shenango River. Participants will identify foliage, walk trails, collect stream bugs and view a presentation of the Shenango River Plan. Drivers can get to the bridge several ways.
