Astro loses battle of unbeatens



STRUTHERS -- Rondinelli Tuxedo and Koch Construction/Line Drive Select will finish out the AABC Connie Mack state tournament at Cene Park today.
Rondinelli received a bye in round seven and will play Ohio Blue Thunder at 2 p.m., while Koch Construction/Line Drive Select will play JL Clevelanders, also at 2 p.m., for eighth place.
Eleven games were played Tuesday, with Youngstown-based teams competing in six of them.
Astro Falcons began the day as one of three unbeaten teams and remained so with a 16-8 win over Ohio Warhawks, but Astro then lost to Ohio Blue Thunder, 15-7.
Rondinelli won two games, 13-2 over Livi Steel and 11-3 over Ohio Eagles.
Koch Construction/Line Drive Select lost to Ohio Eagles 8-5 before defeating Piqua American Legion, 6-5.
Astro Falcons 16,Ohio Warhawks 8
Adam Wigley, Jared Bartholomew, and Joe Irwin had three hits each, with Mike Swoboda going the first five innings for the win. Astros put the game away with a seven-run sixth inning. Jacob Michael, JB Shuck, and BJ Scott had two hits each for the Warhawks.
Ohio Eagles 8, Koch Construction/Line Drive Select 5
Ohio Eagles spotted Joe Koch Construction/Line Drive Select a 4-0 first inning lead and then came back to knock out KLD 8-5. Mark Miller had three hits and three runs batted in while Alan Krantz added three singles for the Eagles. Kevin Kachele pitched the final six innings for the win, allowing just one run. Nate Tacsik had two hits while Dom Modarelli added a bases-loaded triple in the top of the first inning.
Rondinelli Tuxedo 13, Livi Steel 2
Rondinelli pounded out 12 hits. Phil Williamson had a single, a double and a triple while Frank Rosile had three singles for Rondinelli. Tim Kearney tossed the complete game for his second win in the tournament. He had eight strikeouts. Scooter Hargate had a triple and a single for Livi Steel.

Rondinelli saw every player score in a nine-run first inning. Frank Rosile had three hits while Chuck Olesky, Phil Williamson and Dan Babyak had two hits each for Rondinelli. Matt Katich went the first four innings for the win as he allowed just one earned run. Adam Waller and Alan Krantz had two hits each for the Eagles.
Joe Koch Construction/Line Drive Select 6, Piqua American Legion 5
Kevin Sikora had a double and scored on a single by Corey Martin for the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rick O'Brien tossed 12/3 innings in relief for the win, allowing just one hit. Martin had two hits while Matt Roberts had two hits for Piqua.
Ohio Blue Thunder 15,Astro Falcons 7
The Blue Thunder pounded out 18 hits as they won a battle of the unbeaten teams. The Thunder batted around in both the third and fifth innings. Jake Calcei had three hits and four runs batted in while Jordan Petraitis added three hits and three RBIs. Drew Turocy led the Astros with three hits while Brian Balkovec had a pair of hits and three RBIs. Astro also was hurt as it had six errors in the contest. The Falcons finished the tournament as the fourth-place team.
