Thieves steal safe from Austintown home

AUSTINTOWN -- A safe was stolen from a bedroom at a home on North Navarre Avenue Sunday afternoon.
At 3 p.m., two males entered the home through a bedroom window. They gained entry to the home by removing an air conditioning unit from the window, according to police reports.
One of the men wore a blue bandanna to cover his face, police said.
The owner of the home was not present at the time, but an 88-year-old male resident saw the two men and reported the burglary to police.
When the resident heard the commotion, he got out of bed to see what was happening. He was confronted by one of the thieves, who told him to go to the kitchen while they wandered through the house for about five more minutes.
The resident believes the men left through the front door.
After inspecting the home, the resident noticed that the safe was missing and the air conditioner had been torn from the window.
