Police probe shooting at Krakusy Hall lot

YOUNGSTOWN -- Jermaine Reynolds died after being shot in the back when someone fired into a crowd in the Krakusy Hall parking lot on the South Side, police said.
Reynolds, 18, of Bennington Avenue, was hit several times around 11:20 p.m. Sunday and was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Health Center, police said. Police found him face down in the hall lot at 2205 South Ave. with three casings nearby.
Kiowanna L. Howard, 22, of Ferndale Avenue, Warren, was also shot in the back. Her condition was listed as stable.
Witnesses said the gunfire came from a wooded area near the lot. Boardman police arrived to assist city police with crowd control.
At least one bullet traveled through a wall at the Acme Club, 2130 South Ave. A bartender placed it into an ashtray to save it for police.
Bystanders told police that the shooters had been waiting in the tall weeds and opened fire on everyone in the lot. Police found weeds had been trampled and collected three beer cans and two containers of partially eaten food -- pasta salad and fruit salad.
Reynolds is the city's 17th homicide victim of the year. There were 13 homicides at this time last year.
