B.B. Rooners (19 & amp; under) went 6-0 to finish second at the Big South Classic in Dandridge, Tenn. Rooners defeated Lexington (Ky.) Hustlers 8-7, Knoxville (Tenn.) Fury 10-3, Shelbyville (Tenn.) American Legion 8-5, Knoxville (Tenn.) Thunder 12-5, GSA (Ga.) Dodgers 12-1 and Jackson (Mich.) Wendy's 12-5. Leading Rooners in hitting was Jared Northcott (Cochranton, Pa.), who was 8-for-15 with two doubles and four RBIs. Andy Todor (West Branch) and Mark White (Slippery Rock, Pa.) were both 7-for-11. Todor had two doubles and a home run, with four RBIs, while White had a homer, a double, 10 RBIs and three stolen bases. Brian Daugherty (Brookfield) went 6-for-19, scoring nine runs and driving in five. He also hit a home run and a double. David Leon (Hermitage, Pa.) finished with five hits and seven runs scored, while Brett Dutton (Girard) scored six runs. Ryan Hays (Slippery Rock, Pa.) and Shane Scott (Lakeview, Pa.) also scored seven runs apiece. Calvin Clayton (Boardman), John Opincarne (Lowellville), Sam Suitca (Marlington), Scott, Dutton (Girard) and Northcott all picked up pitching wins. B.B. Rooners' season record is 49-10 and the team is 20-5 in tournaments.
Softball
Valley Sting's 18U fastpitch team finished 4-1 at the Loudonville Tournament. Sting defeated North Coast Spirit 4-0 as Markie Pozzuto (Mecca) pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts, and Kasey Karr (Champion) hit a three-run triple. Sting also defeated Louisville (Ky.) Lady Sluggers, who were ASA national runners-up in 2004, 3-0. Karr pitched a four-hitter. Singles by Kari Thompson (Poland) and Amanda Graeter (Lyndhurst), followed by a double by Pozzuto and a groundout by Dar Bott (Conneaut) groundout, scored all the runs. Sting next defeated Lady Lasers Pink 2-1 in eight innings. In the seventh, Jess Rabell (Albion, Pa.) hit a double, was sacrificed to second by Allie Patton (Poland) and scored on a suicide squeeze by Trisha Dreslinski (Kingsville). In the eighth inning, Trisha Dreslinski's suicide squeeze scored Rabell to win the game. Karr then threw a no-hitter with nine strikeouts to beat Holly Hills, 5-0. Kari Thompson hit a RBI double and two-run homer, and Karr doubled twice and singled. Sting then lost to the Tiger Lillies 1-0. Pozzuto allowed three hits, and she and Patton had Sting's only hits. Sting (30-8) travels to the ASA Nationals in Columbus, Ga.
