NFL ROUNDUP \ News and notes
Rams: Harvard quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, a seventh-round pick, has agreed to terms on a three-year contract. Fitzpatrick is the fourth player from this year's 11-player draft class to come to terms, following fourth-round safety Jerome Carter, seventh-round running back Madison Hedgecock and fourth-round offensive lineman Claude Terrell. Fitzpatrick threw for 5,234 yards with 39 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions during his college career.
Jets: Cornerback Donnie Abraham retired Monday, ending his nine-year career to spend more time with his family. Abraham, who told the team last week that he planned to quit, spent the last three seasons with the Jets after starting his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Eagles: Fourth-round draft pick Sean Considine signed a four-year contract Monday. Considine, a 6-foot, 212-pound safety out of Iowa, recorded 48 tackles and three interceptions as a senior and was an All-Big Ten selection. Considine, 22, was the first pick in the fourth round and 102nd overall.
Bears: The possibility of Cedric Benson being signed and in training camp for the first practice Sunday is as slim as it has been since the Texas running back was taken with the fourth pick of the 2005 NFL draft. General manager Jerry Angelo, a native of Youngstown, and negotiator Cliff Stein have exchanged proposals with Benson's agent, Eugene Parker. The talks have not been contentious, but there are no indications a deal is imminent.
Bills: The last thing Travis Henry wanted was another season in Willis McGahee's shadow. That was solved Monday when Bills president Tom Donahoe announced he traded Henry to the Titans for a third-round pick in next year's draft. The deal ends a standoff between the team and player after Henry vowed not to play the final year of his contract with Buffalo next season. Henry, the Bills' former starter, did not attend the team's minicamp sessions last spring, unhappy after losing his job to McGahee in October.
Seahawks: Former receiver Koren Robinson pleaded guilty Monday to one count of driving under the influence, and was ordered to spend one day in jail. Kirkland Municipal Court Judge Albert Raines sentenced Robinson to one year in jail with 364 days suspended. He must serve 24 months of supervised probation and use an ignition interlock device for one year. He was also fined $2,137 and had his license suspended for 90 days. A second charge of reckless driving was dismissed.
49ers: Aaron Salkin was named director of public relations, replacing an administrator who resigned during a scandal surrounding an offensive training video. Kirk Reynolds quit in early June after the video was leaked to a newspaper. The video -- produced by Reynolds to coach players on their attitudes toward the media and the public -- featured strippers, racial slurs about the Chinese community, a mock lesbian wedding and Reynolds' impersonation of San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom.
