Officials sponsor seminar about recreational grants

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County officials are sponsoring a recreational grant seminar from 8 to 10 a.m. July 26 at the North Beaver Township Municipal Building at 861 Mount Jackson Road (Route 108).
The workshop is free. Reservations are to be made by Wednesday by calling Vanessa Affagato in the county commissioners office at (724) 656-2163.
Commissioners, in cooperation with the county planning commission and the Lawrence County Regional Council of Governments, are sponsoring the workshop. Officials will provide information about various grants available through the Joint Partnership Grant Program provided by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Commissioner Chairman Dan Vogler said grants are available for a variety of projects including the renovation of athletic fields, playgrounds, watershed plans and recreational trails.
"We want to do what we can to make people aware of what's available," he said. "It's in their best interest to see what this is all about."
Community park and recreation volunteers, elected officials, municipal staff, watershed groups, trail groups, land trust/conservancy organizations and other individuals interested in learning about various grant opportunities are encouraged to attend.
Information will be provided about the application process, program priorities and application requirements of various grants.
