NESHANNOCK Directors hire Seltzer as high school principal

Administrators were given 3.5 percent pay increases.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A township resident will assume the position of Neshannock High School principal.
The board of school directors voted to hire Scott Seltzer by an 8-0 vote at a salary of $74,000 a year. Board President Frank Rondinelli was absent.
The principal position was opened after high school Principal Maynard Harvey accepted the new position of Supervisor of Public Services.
Seltzer graduated in 1985 from Mohawk High School and in 1989 with a bachelor of art's degree in social studies from Westminster College. He also received his master's in education along with his guidance and principal's certification from Westminster.
He was a high school teacher in the Mohawk Area School District from 1989 through 2002. Seltzer served as assistant principal at Frew Mill School, formerly known as the Youth Development Center from 2002 through 2003.
Closer to home
He is serving as assistant principal of Moon High School, located in Moon Township near the Pittsburgh Airport.
He and his wife, Sandra, reside in Neshannock Township with their three children: Alex, 12; Matthew, 9; and Kaitlin, 5.
Seltzer commented after the meeting that he is glad to be closer to home. "I feel my time will be more equally divided, professionally and with my family."
He said he will shorten his commute from close to one hour to close to five minutes.
Superintendent Dr. Michael Hink commented, "I'm thrilled to have him. He's a fine administrator and a great asset to the district."
The board also approved salary increases of 3.5 percent for the remaining administrators by a 7 to 1 decision. Board member Mary Jo Coyne voted no. Before the vote she questioned if all the administrators would be voted on together.
Elementary School Principal Matt Heasley will receive $76,282 a year; junior high school Principal Nick Perry's, $74,692; Maynard Harvey, supervisor of public services, $88,902; and curriculum director, Mark Ferrara, $87,652.
Board secretary and business manager Carol Robinson also received a 3.5 percent salary increase. She will earn $44,831 for the 2005-06 school year.
Resignation
After 23 years as athletic director, the board accepted the resignation of Robert Bleggi.
His resignation will take effect Dec. 31, and he will remain as athletic program consultant through June 30, 2006, while the district looks for a new athletic director. Bleggi served as high school social studies teacher and athletic director for 45 years.
The board recommended Nicholas Mylo and Elizabeth Payne of New Castle as assistant girls basketball coaches. Their salaries were set at $3,755.
Gregory Huston of Beaver Falls also was hired as an assistant girls basketball coach at a salary of $3,067.
The board accepted the resignation of Maria Karstadt, who served 5/8 time as high school art teacher. Karstadt has accepted an elementary art teacher position with the Shenango Area School District.
