Facing host of charges
A woman accused of stealing a cruiser to elude arrest was released from the hospital late Saturday and is now in the Mahoning County Jail facing multiple charges.
Kim Kalasky, 24, has been charged with resisting arrest, failure to comply, escape, aggravated robbery, felonious assault and obstructing official business, according to a jail spokesman.
According to reports, police responded to a call Friday from Kalasky's mother, who said her daughter had stolen checks from her. Police said they found Kalasky hiding in the basement and that when she refused to cooperate, they arrested her on a charge of obstructing official business.
While in custody, she slipped out of a handcuff and tried to stab an officer with a small knife, police said. When the officer got out of his cruiser to avoid being injured, Kalasky crawled through a partition and climbed into the driver's seat despite being sprayed with pepper spray, the report says.
Another officer saw Kalasky in the stolen cruiser drive onto Interstate 680 and go north, the report says. A rolling roadblock trapped the stolen cruiser.
New veterans plates
HARRISBURG -- Pennsylvania will honor veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom with three new veterans license plates.
Each will cost $20 in addition to normal registration fees.
Warren school board
WARREN -- The board of education is still searching for a superintendent.
The board will conduct a special meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the board room of the administration building, 261 Monroe St. N.E., but is not expected to make a decision at that time, board president Linda Metzendorf said.
