EASTON, Pa. (AP) -- A man was convicted in a drunken-driving accident that killed four people, including a soldier on leave from Iraq and a Lehigh County prosecutor.
Christopher Kozo, 24, of East Allen Township, clenched his jaw Friday as the jury foreman in Northampton County Court declared him guilty of four counts of homicide by vehicle while driving drunk. He faces 12 years in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 9.
Kozo had 10 to 12 beers on March 20, 2004, and then failed to stop at a stop sign before crashing into a car occupied by four men. The crash killed Joseph Azar, 27; Danny Khalouf, 27, an assistant district attorney for Lehigh County; and Joseph Nimeh, 26, all of Allentown; and George Elias, 20, of Whitehall Township, a military policeman in the Army, on leave from Iraq for a three-week furlough.
The jury also found Kozo guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
Reactions
"Obviously, we're disappointed, but I don't question jurors," defense attorney Thomas Ceraso said. "They worked very hard at it. But there's no question in this case we will appeal."
Kozo's parents declined to comment as they left the courthouse, which was packed for most of the trial with family and friends of the victims.
