POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Liberty:
July 6
Burglary: A woman came home to her Tuttle Drive residence and found the front door had been kicked in. Stolen were 300 compact discs, 25 DVDs, a DVD player and a diamond ring, for a loss of $3,650.
Theft: A man in his mid-20s reportedly pumped $43.78 worth of gasoline at a Speedway station, 4210 Belmont Ave., and drove away without paying.
Theft: A worker at Aim Nationalease, 1500 Trumbull Ave., found out someone removed a semi-trailer from a lot.
Theft: A motorist in his 40s left a BP station, 2703 Belmont Ave., without paying for $18.20 worth of gasoline.
Breaking and entering: A James Lane man discovered someone entered his trailer through an unlocked side door. Missing were 37 OxyContin tablets.
July 7
Burglary: A woman in the 5200 block of Sampson Drive told police she confronted a man in her residence after someone entered, likely through a patio area. Nothing appeared to be missing.
Drugs: After conducting a traffic stop at a residence in the 900 block of Tibbets-Wick Road, officers apprehended a 23-year-old Girard man. He was wanted on a warrant charging him with failure to appear on a probation-violation charge, and faced two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count each of drug abuse cocaine and driving under suspension.
July 8
Drugs: After pulling over a vehicle near state Route 304 and East Drive, police arrested a 21-year-old Warren woman wanted on a warrant charging her with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers added a charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments after they say the woman admitted a hypodermic needle in the car was hers.
Criminal damaging: Someone destroyed parts to two money-changing machines at PDQ Car Wash Inc., 1951 Church Hill Road, in an attempt to gain access.
Theft: A Girard man reported the theft of his mountain bike while he was at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.
Theft/criminal damaging: A Youngstown woman discovered her vehicle's passenger-side window broken and its dashboard damaged while she was in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive. A CD stereo and 30 CDs were taken. The loss was $700.
Arrest: After stopping a driver for making an improper right turn in the 3900 block of Belmont Avenue, police arrested a 25-year-old Youngstown man after they say he was under eight license suspensions. The suspect faced eight counts of driving under suspension and one felony count of carrying a concealed weapon after officers say a loaded 9 mm handgun was between the seat and console.
Assault/menacing: A Girard woman told police that, while at the Youngstown Country Club, 1402 Country Club Drive, her 25-year-old former boyfriend tried to pull her out of her vehicle after following her.
Assault: A woman in the 4200 block of Logan Gate Road alleged a man, 19, struck her during an altercation. She was not injured.
Burglary: A woman returned to her apartment in the 1700 block of Naylor-Lloyd Road and discovered someone had broken in. Two TVs, a stereo and a DVD player were removed, causing a loss of $3,740.
July 9
Criminal mischief: A Louise Lane man reported someone tossed eggs at his car.
Theft: After a Valley City, Ohio, man went to take possession of items on property in the 1100 block of Church Hill Road that he had foreclosed on, he found two oak doors missing. The theft was estimated at $6,000.
Theft: After T-shirts, socks, purses and other items were stolen from Dollar General, 3551 Belmont Ave., officers arrested a man, 30, and two women, 25 and 28, all from Howland. Charges against them were theft and complicity to theft. A fourth person also was arrested, but no charges had been brought against him.
July 10
Theft: A woman, 50, reportedly pumped $32 worth of gasoline at a Speedway station and failed to pay.
July 11
Arrest: During a traffic stop near the Tallyho-tel, 4249 Belmont Ave., a Youngstown woman, 35, wanted on a warrant charging her with criminal trespass was arrested. She also was charged with possession of a counterfeit controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say they tested a substance that was packaged to resemble cocaine and that results were negative after finding two suspected crack pipes and the suspected crack cocaine.
Identity theft: A Logan Avenue man told police he was notified by Home Savings and Loan, 3500 Belmont Ave., that four illegal withdrawals were made to his account, possibly from Russia. The loss came to $435.38.
Theft: An employee at Smoker Friendly, 3814 Belmont Ave., told police a woman in her 30s shortchanged the store $20.
July 12
Vandalism: Someone caused $400 in damage after using a large rock to try to smash a window at Rentway, 2718 Belmont Ave.
