Questioning begins incase of fatal shooting
WARREN -- City police were preparing Wednesday to interview several people to try to figure out what led to a fatal shooting Tuesday night on Comstock Street Northwest.
Killed in the 10:40 p.m. exchange of gunfire, police said, was Maurice T. Williams, 29, of 381 Comstock.
The shooting occurred at a 394 Comstock residence and was noted on a police report as a domestic crime. The Trumbull County coroner's office was notified. No arrests had been made.
Police responded to a call of possible shots fired. They found Williams on the driveway.
Crash kills woman
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- A 21-year-old New Middletown woman was killed late Tuesday morning in a collision between her car and a BFI garbage truck on Calla Road near Unity Road in Springfield Township.
Stacey Polansky, 21, was killed after the truck's driver, Robert Ott of Alliance, apparently ran a stop sign while traveling north on Unity Road and hit the vehicle heading west on Calla Road, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Patrol reports say Polansky's vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a stop sign and several bushes before overturning.
Ott was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center and treated for minor injuries.
Police to hold car show
BROOKFIELD -- The Brookfield Police Association will have a Cops Car Show from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Giant Eagle, 7229 Warren-Sharon Road. The event is free and open to the public. Hot dogs and refreshments also will be free.
The Project Childsafe educational truck will be there to distribute free firearms safety kits. Free gun locks will be available.
Pedestrian hit by bullet
WARREN -- A 36-year-old city man was walking on Palmyra Road on Tuesday when he was struck in the arm by a stray bullet.
He flagged down a motorist, who stopped and took him to Trumbull Memorial Hospital. The police report said the wound appeared to be from a small caliber weapon.
Memorial fund-raiser
LEAVITTSBURG -- Parents of Murdered Children is sponsoring its first Poker Run on Saturday at the Wagon Wheel, 46 Leavitt Road. Registration is from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. The cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple.
The money raised will help create an updated memorial board for local victims.
Underage consumption
BOARDMAN -- Police charged a 19-year-old Virginia man with carrying a concealed weapon and underage alcohol consumption after police responded to a fight call at Perkins Restaurant, U.S. Route 224.
Witnesses told police that Andre G. Collier Jr. of Hampton, Va., was threatening people with a knife in the lots of Perkins and International House of Pancakes early Tuesday.
Police said they found a pocket knife in Collier's pants pocket and detected alcohol on his breath. Two 17-year-old Campbell girls with Collier were charged with underage alcohol consumption and released to their parents.
Robbery suspect hunt
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are searching for a man wanted on a charge of aggravated robbery for taking about $12,000 from Buckeye Paging, 3606 Southern Blvd., on Tuesday.
Owner Charles Mitchell told police a man with a deep voice put a gun to his head as he was taking trash out the back of his store.
Mitchell told officers he gave the man the money, which he had on hand because his bills were due, after the robber forced him back into the store.
Autos and Angels show
NILES -- Shepherd of the Valley will have a car show from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Shepherd of the Valley, 1500 McKinley Ave. The Autos and Angels Car Show will feature music, animals, food and cars.
Angels for Animals will bring adoptable puppies and sell chocolate chip cookies and various pies. A replica of "The Dukes of Hazzard" General Lee car also will be there.
