Supervisors decide on road crew bids

The township needs $15,000 to finish this year's paving projects.
HILLSVILE, Pa. -- Two bids for road materials were accepted by Mahoning Township supervisors at their Tuesday meeting.
Supervisors accepted a bid from Cargill, of Cleveland, Ohio, for $34.09 per ton for road salt, and one for anti-skid material at $3.50 per ton FOB or $7 per ton delivered from Troy Sand and Gravel, Volant.
The bids were accepted through the Lawrence County Council of Governments for a group of municipalities.
Also Tuesday, Supervisor Poncho Exposito said seven juveniles have been arrested in the past two or three weeks for problems they are causing in the Hillsville area.
One resident reported that a group of youths is roaming the Hillsville area by the old St. Lawrence Church, frightening residents. Exposito had no further details about the arrests.

UHeard a report from Exposito that the construction of the Edinburg waterline will be put out for bid in the next two weeks.
UVoted to support establishment of a Council of Governments regional board of appeals for the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. The board would take appeals from people who apply for building permits.
UAgreed to get prices and explore the possibility of going together with other municipalities for buying an asphalt "zipper" machine which mills road materials.
UAgreed to ask PennDOT and the county to lend or give the township $15,000 needed to finish this year's paving program.
USet a special meeting for 9 a.m. July 25 to open bids for purchase of an old township dump truck and tractor that are being taken out of service. The bids are being re-advertised.
