Tri-T Colt (ages 15-17)
Columbiana DeChellis Dental 6, Canfield Mill Creek Homes 5 -- Columbiana jumped out to a 6-2 lead then hung on to win the Tri-T Colt League Championship. After Canfield scored twice in the seventh inning, the game ended with an over-the-shoulder catch by left fielder Vince Penza with the tying run on second base. Bill Sattler earned the victory, scattering seven hits while striking out 10 batters. Columbiana was paced by Tom DeChellis with a double, single and three RBIs. Joey Leson and Greg Snyder had two hits each while Steven Bensinger scored twice. Other Columbiana (20-4) team members are Robert Bensinger, Tom Biroschak, David Heck, Randy Johnston, Tyler Souder, Pat Sposato, A.J. Steiner, David Vitko and Mike Welce. Manager Don DeChellis' coaches are Eugene Leson and David Vitko. For Canfield, John Thomas tripled and scored while Josh Summer had two hits and scores.
Little League Tournament (ages 13-14)
Boardman 10 Lakeview 5 -- Boardman rallied from a 4-0 first inning deficit in the opening game of district play. Dan Eich pitched a complete game for Boardman, scattering six hits. Pat McFall and Kyle Jones each had two hits.
Pony Tournament (age 13)
Austintown Paper Center 11, Canfield All Stars 7 -- With the win, Austintown advances to the Boardman regional tournament. Jacob Barker's two hits included a two-run homer. Anthony Sauko contributed three hits while Eddie Kubic and Chris Miller had two hits each. For Canfield, P.J. Stickle had two hits and reached base four times. Joey Mikalay added two hits.
